Case Description

The Hollaender Manufacturing company in Cincinnati area (Ohio, US) developed a modular kit based on their Speed-Rail system of pipes and fittings, which can be used to build structures for a variety of applications. The Speed-Rail system has been used in the past for a variety of purposes. In response to the pandemic, Hollaender collaborated with Brooklyn-based design agency Fantástica, in order to design a modular kit based on the Speed-rail system. The kit allows restaurants and other businesses to expand outdoors with modular and flexible platforms, while promoting public health and social distancing.

Relation to Resilience

The modular kits by Hollaender Manufacturing and Fantástica are a great example of adaptability in times of crisis. By their reliance on an existing modular system, these structures could be produced and installed quickly in response to the changing circumstances. Through this adaptability, restaurants and other businesses can sustain their services for people to enjoy and make use of.
