Case Description
By visually indicating an appropriate distance between people, this intervention supports the process of reopening public areas safely after a period of lockdown. To indicate the proper distance, the designers from Caret Studio created a temporary solution consisting of a grid of squares, painted on the floor. The intervention called StoDistante (in English ‘I am distant’), is conceived by the authors as a ‘platform for citizens to reclaim and reactivate open spaces through the hosting of a series of initiatives as rules are relaxed in the coming weeks.’
Relation to Resilience
The grid of painted squares is not only an indication for public space users on how to safely share space with each other again; they are also intended to support the realization of future public activities and events. This strategy allows residents to act and appropriate the square for various temporary purposes.
