Case Description

To implement and visualize social distancing measures, many commercial organizations and municipalities used tape to indicate where people were not allowed sit or stand. Taping patterns and shapes, such as large dots and crosses, offered a quick way to tackle the problem of collectively using public spaces. The Instagram account @tape_measures collected many examples of similar cases from all over Singapore, showing how these geometric tape patterns altered the space.

Relation to Resilience

The use of tapes was a low-threshold approach to implement and visualize social distancing measures in order to ensure people to safely navigate public spaces. Collecting the various patterns implemented throughout the country in one place, created a valuable resource from which a variety of actors get inspiration to take their own tape measures.
