Case Description
Due to the restrictions, in the city of Tel Aviv, Israel’s cultural and economic capital, all restaurants and bars were closed overnight and many locals started meeting each other outdoors. The Urban Design Agency Association Humankind and the architecture firm https://www.nadelroizin.com/ designed the “Open Café” to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The design consisted of a collection of public furniture, which “became the new terrace”.
Relation to Resilience
The Open Café gave people the opportunity to gather, in times when bars and restaurants could not. In this way, public life could continue and people could stay connected and enjoy the company of one another.
